Denomination may vary.A SHOPKEEPER'S LAMENT
This ultra rare Notgeld (emergency) banknote was issued by a shopkeeper in Northern Austria in 1921. One side of the bill shows a peaceful panoramic view of Gottsdorf (God's Village), a town on the Danube.
The other side shows 3 money hungry Jews with their bulging money bags and pouches, plotting their next financial move. The shopkeeper displays a poem that translates as:
You are getting this paper note because that's all I have in my shop.
The Jews took all (the coins) of silver and copper long ago.
A poignant reminder of how the poor postwar economy in the former Axis countries was blamed on the alleged financial machinations of the Jews. Denomination may vary. Design is the same. Buy 2, get 2 different denominations.
Note that this is one of the rarest of all anti-semitic currency notes.
